Breakthrough in Thin-Film Solar Cells: New Insights Into the Indium/Gallium Puzzle

Just read this today about new breakthroughs in the innovation of solar cells set to be the next generation of solar power. Its exciting stuff.

ScienceDaily (July 20, 2010) — Scientists at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) in Mainz have made a major breakthrough in their search for more efficient thin-film solar cells. Computer simulations designed to investigate the so-called indium/gallium puzzle have highlighted a new way of increasing the efficiency of CIGS thin-film solar cells.  Researchers to date have achieved only about 20% efficiency with CIGS cells although efficiency levels of 30% are theoretically possible.

Solar researchers hail "hot electron" efficiency breakthrough

"A breakthrough in solar cell design that could dramatically improve the efficiency of the technology to more than 60 per cent has US researchers hot under the collar" writes Andrew Doaghue in BusinessGreen.com. So over the course of the next 50 years we are going to see a considerable cost reduction and marked efficiency in the use of Solar  Energy across all the markets suggesting that there is no reason we can't be 100% Solar by 2060. Excellent news!

Solar Energy to save Thousands from risks of search for water!

Check out this article from The Independant by clicking here.It just goes to show how much good the use and application of solar power can do in third world countries. Don't forget its one of the cheapest forms of energy, along with wind generated power and its getting cheaper! If you're interested in generating your own solar power check out Earth For Energy.com and you'll be up and running in no time. Stay green and stay keen! :) P.

Welcome to My first Green Blog!

Hello people! Welcome to my Green Blog. I hope over the coming months and years you will find it both informative and  rewarding. As the title suggests my main focus will be on green issues centralising on alternative energy and renewable resources. I'll be updating as regularly as I can with new information and resources for you to peruse at your leisure so I hope we can all beneffit from this in the long run. I'll just say this little piece to begin with so you know exactly where I am coming from  and why I am doing this.

I feel that we all owe it to our planet to put something back. Now, more than ever, we find ourselves in one of the worst global predicaments  we have ever been in as a species. Pollution. de-forrestisation, resource depletion, ecological meltdown and the systematic annihilation of species after species in the animal kingdom, is leading us into a black hole of planetary meltdown and ultimate destruction.

Dark words I know, but theses are dark times and unless we all pull together and recognise the facts that we are presented with, it is unlikely we will last the distance as a race. Lets put something back and lets make a safer greener planet for our children and there children to live in for generations to come. If you're reading this, then you're already on the road.Remember, small hands turn big wheels :)
